Growth is a journey shaped by curiosity, opportunity, and ambition. Through our “Journeys of Growth” series, we shine a light on young professionals who turned their early steps at ENGIE into key roles. Meet Marine Sauces, now Commodity Portfolio Manager in Australia.
Launching a career in Renewables with purpose
Marine’s journey with ENGIE International Supply & Energy Management began in Brussels through a VIE program, a door opener she identified as a strategic way to launch her career in renewables.
“I wanted to dedicate my efforts to the energy transition and play an active role in current environmental issues, but most companies were asking for years of experience I didn’t have. The VIE gave me the chance to prove myself, and it turned out to be the perfect entry point.”
After joining as a Business Developer for renewables, she quickly transitioned into a Renewable Portfolio Manager role in Brussels, managing assets and data flows across solar and wind parks. That position gave her a hands-on understanding of how ENGIE connects technical operations, trading, and market access in Europe.

Exploring new challenges
Eager to grow beyond her operational role, Marine took on new responsibilities as a Renewable Energy Services Transversal Project Manager, leading cross-functional projects with IT, trading, and origination teams.
“As our activity grew fast, I felt it was time to focus on building tools and processes that would support our long-term efficiency. That’s when I transitioned into project management and started working with agile teams.”
Her drive and commitment opened new opportunities. After five years in Brussels, Marine relocated to Australia, where she embraced a dual role: on one hand, she led a transversal gas project as Project Manager, working across trading, origination, IT, and risk teams; on the other, she coordinated the development of renewable activities across the APAC region. This included supporting the launch and growth of new green power desks in Singapore, Tokyo, and Delhi, and helping replicate operational models and tools from Brussels to accelerate local deployment.
A new chapter in Australia

This October, Marine is embracing a new challenge as Commodity Portfolio Manager, a role that places her at the heart of ENGIE’s multi-energy strategy. She will oversee portfolios spanning gas, solar, wind, and battery assets, and design tailored hedging strategies for internal clients such as ENGIE Renewable & Flexible Generation (R&F), BtoB and BtoC. Her work involves close collaboration with multi-stakeholders, trading, risk, finance, and analytics teams to optimize market exposure and unlock value across technologies.
“I thrive in fast-paced environments where decisions shape real-time market outcomes. This role brings me back to the operational core, exactly where I feel most impactful.”
💬Advice to young professionals
Marine’s journey, from her first steps at ENGIE to a key international position, shows how far initiative, and a genuine interest in learning can lead.
“Stay curious. Ask questions. Build connections. Keep your motivation strong, that’s what makes the difference.”
Marine’s journey reflects what’s possible when ambition meets opportunity. She started with a VIE, took on operational and transversal roles, led international projects, and now steps into a strategic position at the heart of ENGIE’s energy portfolios. Her path shows how curiosity, initiative, and resilience can shape a career with real impact across technologies, geographies, and teams.
For young professionals looking to grow, Marine’s story is a reminder that every step counts, and that ENGIE offers the space to explore, learn, and grow.
