Carrefour Spain signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ENGIE, bringing the company closer to its goal of utilizing 100% renewable electricity by 2030. Under this 10-year agreement, Carrefour will receive energy supply from four of ENGIE’s assets: two wind farms and two solar parks. Their combined capacity of approximately 180 GWh/year will help Carrefour in its commitment to carbon neutrality goal while stabilizing energy costs.
In addition to the PPA, Carrefour continues to promote a more sustainable energy model through investment in self-consumption. The company currently operates over 280,000 m² of solar panels across 137 stores, resulting in a reduction of 19,500 tons of CO2 emissions this year. The combination of self-consumption measures and the PPA will account for around 40% of Carrefour’s annual electricity consumption from renewable sources.
